IMPROVEMENTS BEGIN ON DEAN STREET
(6/28/2007) NEW HAVEN- Recent storms have created problematic flood conditions on Dean Street in the East Shore. In an effort to prevent flooding during future storms, the City has been a multi-phase project to safeguard the Dean Street area from flooding.
“We have begun placing 9 Flex check valves in the pipes that lead to Morris creek,” said Dick Miller, City Engineer. “These are being installed at low tide throughout the next few days by Concrete Creations. The work is part of a phased effort to minimize the flooding of the Dean Street Area.”
The flex check valves prevent high tide backwater from bleeding back into the street. This allows for the portable pumps to handle the rain flow without competing with tide influence.
The next Phase involves drainage improvements in the street with pumping chambers to facilitate the pumping out of the accumulated drainage. The final solution involves a permanent pumping station and an extensive collection system. Bidding for the second phase of improvements will begin next week.
